Sports nutrition is a niche for athletes from school age to professionals who want a competitive edge in their sport from increased oxygen capacity to working muscles to meeting their weight goal, along with improving body mechanics and preventing injury and soreness. Growth and repair from everyday stress is essential to perform your best. By knowing what variety and how much to consume of all nutrients, along with added knowledge of what supplements or ergogenic aids are worth it or not will improve your game and keep you playing longer.

Sports Nutrition is a specialty I’ve been working with for over twenty years that includes being a former consultant to Smith College athletes in Massachusetts, to having office locations and consulting in gyms and fitness clubs in both Connecticut and Massachusetts, to providing lectures at Mount Snow Ski Resort in Vermont, and nutrition series at Mohegan Sun Employee Wellness Center, to consulting in rehabilitation centers, working with private sports physician groups, and alternative therapy including chiropractic offices.

Whether you are learning a new activity, or you are a seasoned professional, nutrition and hydration continue to play a key role in performance from electrolytes and energy, to pre and post competitions, to timing of meals, to special needs and conditions involving diets related to likes, dislikes, and intolerances.

As a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, and Certified Medical Exercise Specialist, I have the ability to help athletes achieve greater outcomes, increase energy, performance, and success with individual nutrition plans and nutrition data base analysis assessing over 120 nutrients that include vitamins and minerals in addition to assuring you are consuming adequate amounts of carbohydrates, protein, fats, and fluids. I take a look at the whole picture for health, weight, and wellness and explain how to obtain antioxidants, phytochemicals, and nutrients naturally, but I also educate you on any supplements or ergogenic aids you are presently taking or considering based on scientific evidence.

Because body weight often plays a role with sports, and for others it’s a personal preference to increase or lose weight, I help many athletes achieve a safe weight goal while balancing and maintaining lean body mass. In addition to being a registered dietitian nutritionist along with my specialty credentials, I hold a certificate in adult weight management with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that has given me the ability to help individuals achieve their body weight goals.

SPEED – For many competitive sports it is the athlete’s speed that determines much of their success. Along with genetics, muscle fiber type, and training; nutrition plays a key role in developing a higher rate of individual speed by balancing the right amount of carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fluids.

STRENGTH – Strength is one of the most important aspects to many competitive athletes that involves additional training. While many know protein is important for the recovery of muscle and tissue following strength training, other nutrients are equally important for energy and alleviation of inflammation. Each individual requires a different amount of nutrients along with individual protein amounts based on their weight, age, gender, and activity level, not one size fits all.

ENDURANCE
Increased stamina is gained by consuming a balance of all nutrients with emphasis on carbohydrates including grains, fruits and vegetables. Everyone requires a different combination and amount of carbohydrate in order to achieve their greatest results.

I work with athletes to help achieve sports nutrition goals for success through professional assessments and education based on sound scientific evidence and advice combined with experience.
